Diggin Up Bones

Joan Markel, Outreach Educator for the Frank H. McClung Museum will be speaking at the Magnolia Avenue Campus on Tuesday November 17 at 12:30 P.M.

Markel will speak about the museum’s newest permanent exhibition, “Archaeology and the Native Peoples of Tennessee.” The exhibit is a result of the on going research of 65 years done by the University of Tennessee archaeologists. At the Magnolia Avenue Community Room.

When the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was created in 1933, there was a concern for the numerous prehistoric and historic Native American sites that would be destroyed along the Tennessee River. In 1934, the University of Tennessee and the University of Alabama made an agreement with TVA to do archaeological surveys, investigations, and excavations in the areas.
