Pellissippi Community College is gearing up to release a more user-friendly banner system and mobile app for students and staff.
Audrey Williams, the chief information officer and vice president of information services, as well as the team of programmers at Pellissippi, are working on gradually changing banner systems.
The current one is named banner eight and the new one will be, you guessed it, banner nine. It is expected to be more mobile friendly.
Banners are systems that contain information on courses, students and faculty.
The mobile app and the system will be provided by the same vendor to streamline efficiency and for the two systems to better connect. Williams said getting “systems to talk to each other” has been one of the biggest struggles for the college.
As of now, it is unknown what the app will look like, but students have already seen some of the work done by the team at Pellissippi with the updated Brightspace interface this spring semester.
This upgrade will lead to changes for students and staff, and Williams is aware that change always merits mixed emotions.
Students can be on the look-out for the transition to a new system and be expecting the release of an improved app in the future.
